Our client had successfully launched their brand of iPhone cases on Amazon marketplaces.
For the next phase of growth, they asked us to help them with their category extension strategy for the brand.
Our Solution
We analyzed a range of tech accessory categories, using search volume and competitiveness data from Amazon.
This allowed us to create a par demand index to compare the potential for an average new entry and screen the categories.
Results
While the iPhone case segment was the largest for tech accessories by search volume, it was fragmented by device variations and highly competitive in terms of number of players.
Because this the par sales for new ASINs was relatively low compared with the less competitive, but still large in terms of sales, Airpods cases sector where there were only two devices at the time.
Based on our advice, the client developed and launched new AirPods Pro cases. These products went on to become their best sellers and most profitable products at the ASIN level.
